SDGs Journalism Reporting – Transnational Meeting of Project Members

The international project “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Journalism Reporting” is entering its final implementation phase. The consortium is made up of six universities from three Asian countries (the National University of Battambang, Cambodia; Royal University of Phnom Penh, Cambodia; University of Malaya, Malaysia; Universiti Utara Malaysia, Malaysia; University of Nottingham Ningbo, China; Shenzhen Polytechnic, China), two universities from European countries (University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain – coordinator, and “Lucian Blaga” University of Sibiu, Romania), and one partner from Luxembourg (Novel Group S. à.r.l.). This Erasmus+ project aims to introduce a Bachelor or Master level Journalism and Sustainability programme in the curricula of the partner universities in Asia.

In this final phase of implementation for the project “SDGs Journalism Reporting”, funded through Erasmus+ / Cooperation for innovation and the exchange of good practices (609897-EPP-1-2019-1-ES-EPPKA2-CBHE-JP), study visits to partner universities in Asia are in progress, including objectives such as analyzing and assessing the state of implementation of the programme, collecting relevant data, solving inherent problems and, last but not least, fostering professional dialogue between the project team members. After the kickoff meeting of the consortium hosted by the University of Santiago de Compostela in 2020, the first study visit was organized at the end of the last year, December 5th to 10th, at the National University of Battambang (Cambodia), the event bringing together more than 50 academics, students, journalists and members of local NGOs.

The project team members representing the “Lucian Blaga” University of Sibiu are: Associate  Professor Roxana Săvescu, PhD (coordinator), Associate Professor Minodora Sălcudean, PhD and lecturer Adina Pintea, PhD (trainers/media experts). Last summer, the ULBS team developed substantial educational resources and conducted a series of training sessions with the academic staff involved in teaching the pilot course. Since September 2022, the Asian universities practically started to implement the programme so that the first conclusions on the state of implementation of the project were possible in December.

The implementation process of the SDGs Journalism Reporting project will be finalized in 2023. Two more study visits will be scheduled, one in spring, to the Malaysian partners, and one in autumn, to the Chinese partners.
